Distraction Burglary

Dear Residents,

We are writing to raise awareness following a recent distraction burglary reported locally.

In this incident men posing as tradesmen gained access to a property by claiming that they needed to carry out work. Once inside they distracted the occupant and stole jewellery.

We would like to remind you of the following important crime-prevention advice:

Do not let anyone into your home unless you are expecting them.

Always check identification carefully (genuine callers will not object)

Always keep doors locked and use your chain or viewer if you have one

Use a ring doorbell

Never feel rushed or pressured into opening the door

If unsure do not open the door and contact the company or call police

Consider arranging visits for a later time when a friend, family member or neighbour is present

Distraction burglary often targets older or vulnerable people so please share this advice with neighbours, friends and family who maybe at greater risk.

If you see suspicious behaviour or believe someone is trying to gain entry dishonestly:

Call 999 if you are in immediate danger

Report concerns on 101
